AUTONOMOUS SEXUALITY

Sexual autonomy means that every individual has the right to determine his/her sexuality freely. What's more, it's a federal and social task to protect sexual rights of all people which includes those who are not in conformity with heteronormative aspects such as physically or mentally disabled people, homosexuals, intersexual or transgender people. [1] [2]

Discrimination, prejudice or ignorance towards people, who don't fit into the norm, often causes conflicts. Many of the problems could be solved in an open dialogue which seems complex in terms of sexuality. Needs, desires and claims of protection are disregarded and topics like "sexuality and disabilities" or "sexual violence" are excluded from the public discourse. Actions are only taken if the damage becomes obvious and those at a disadvantage raise their voices. However, it's uncertain if the occurred traumata can be solved afterwards. [1] [2] [3]

Autonomous sexuality as a human right requires protection as well as authorization to create sexuality according to one's own desires and needs. This includes the acceptance of various lifestyles and relationships. Besides, every individual has the right and responsibility to handle one's own chances of reproduction. [1] [4]

Autonomous sexuality can start where heteronomous sexuality ends. The first step of recognition is that sexuality of today's people is influenced by images and opinions from porn culture, media, religion and society. These images as well as pressure to perform and enjoy influence one's personal idea and dealing with sexuality. Autonomous sexuality can only be experienced by honest reflection and raising of consciousness concerning sexual intensity or regularity. [4] [5] [6]
